About Wallowa Buddhist Temple

The Wallowa Buddhist Temple follows the Serene Reflection Meditation (Soto Zen) tradition of Buddhism. It is affiliated with the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives, an international Buddhist Order whose North American headquarters are at Shasta Abbey in Mt. Shasta, California.

The Wallowa Buddhist Temple serves as a small contemplative Buddhist temple both for those in the area who are interested in Buddhist meditation and practice, and for monks and members of the lay congregation of our Order who wish to come for individual spiritual retreats.

Rev. Meido Tuttle

The priest of the temple, Rev. Meido Tuttle, is a disciple of the late Rev. Master Jiyu Kennett, who was Abbess of Shasta Abbey and the Founder of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives. Rev. Meido was ordained by her in 1980, trained at Shasta Abbey monastery for 22 years, and was named a Master in the Order in 1999. She began serving as a Buddhist priest in northeast Oregon in 2003.
